July 13th-23rd 2017: Bel Canto Opera Festival

We are planning the 29th edition of ROSSINI IN WILDBAD. It is a most extensive festival: four operas by Rossini and one guest performance form Florence. You will enjoy new soloists, shaping the future image of bel canto. Each year we look for outstanding talented singers from all countries who will be singing with some of the finest bel canto artists of our time. Rossini himself discovered a new talent during his stay at the spa of Wildbad (such as Hugo Heermann, who became one of the most famous violinists of his time), and it was during or after his stay in Wildbad that he began again to compose his “Sins of My Old Age.”

We invite you to share this experience of discovery and excellence during the three exciting weeks of ROSSINI IN WILDBAD!

L'occasione fa il ladro – Opportunity makes the thief

Fri 14 July 7.40 pm, Sat 22 July 7.00 pm Trinkhalle

Aureliano in Palmira

A roman emperor encounters an oriental princess at the antique metropolis. It is the only opera Rossini has ever composed for a castrato, it was in 1813 for La Scala. The rather cruel historical ending has been happified by the librettist Felice Romani. Concert production directed José Miguel Perez-Sierra.

Maometto II – Mahomet II.

On of Rossini's masterpieces from his Neapolitain phase from 1820. Wildbad has only produced its Venetian adaptation in concert version. For the first time, we will present this dramaturgically superior version as a full scenic production. With Mirco Palazzi, Elisa Balbo, Victoria Yarovaya, and others.

Eduardo e Cristina

This blockbuster from 1819 written for the Venetian Teatro San Benedetto (today known as a rather deserted „Cinema Rossini“) is really a pasticcio containing not only a lot of his own pieces but also unheard Rossini, it was a big success. In 1997 the opera had, thanks to the Deutsche Rossini Gesellschaft, its modern premier in Wildbad.

An afternoon with three Chinese girls, their views on life, their ennui, disrupted by one of their brothers. Metastasio wrote the delightful libretto, Manuel García, Rossini's first Almaviva, the music in 1831. First produced 2015 in Barcelona and Wildbad, last fall in Florence with the Maggio musicale fiorentino: the CINESI are back in Wildbad!

Luiza Borac Piano (Chamber concert)

Luiza Borac celebrated a fulminant debut last year in Wildbad. This year, she will present a program on top of the trees with Lipatti's Bach arrangements and a lot of romanticism. To move the grant piano on the tower will remain our challenge.
